Literacy

 

Reading and writing is essential to  communication ideas in today’s world. 

I use high interest literacy to engage students in reading and writing. Sessions can include vocabulary development, comprehension, research, study skills, mechanics and editing skills. We read complex text and find character traits and themes in fiction text. Students will learn the joy of writing through creative stories, research reports and journal writing. My writing instructions support the writing process from brainstorming, drafting, rewriting and editing. Students learn how to communicate their ideas effectively.

 

Math

 

I help students develop number sense and how numbers are related to our everyday lives.  I emphasize problem solving skills and higher order thinking skills through the use of manipulatives and technology. My goal is to help students develop an understanding of what numbers mean, how they relate to one another and how they can be represented in many different ways.
